Control two DC motors with your BBC micro:bit using the 4TRONIX Drive:Bit controller board. Features DRV8833 driver & reverse polarity protection.
The 4TRONIX Drive:Bit is a simple, pre-assembled robotics controller board designed specifically for the BBC micro:bit. It features a popular DRV8833 motor driver, enabling it to independently control two separate DC motors, making it a perfect and cost-effective foundation for building a robot.
The controller is designed for reliability, with built-in reverse polarity protection on its 6-10V DC input voltage range. A dedicated 0.5A, 3.3V regulator provides stable power for connected accessories. Conveniently, useful GPIO pins from the micro:bit are broken out to headers along the top edge of the board, including 3-pin GVS (Ground, Voltage, Signal) connectors for P0, P1, P2, and P8, allowing for easy connection of servos, sensors, and LEDs.
A smart RGB LED provides clear visual status feedback. Power can be supplied via robust 2-pin screw terminals or the alternative 2-pin male headers located behind them, offering flexible connection options. It is important to note that the Drive:Bit requires its own external power supply and cannot be powered directly from the micro:bit's USB connection.
To simplify programming, a dedicated MakeCode extension is available, providing easy-to-use blocks for controlling motor speed and direction. With its compact dimensions and straightforward design, the Drive:Bit is an ideal introduction to robotics and physical computing for educators, students, and hobbyists.
