It connects to target boards via the standard Xilinx 2x7, 2mm programming header, providing a direct and reliable link. The cable is powered entirely through its USB connection to your PC, which recognises it as a Digilent programming cable upon connection—even when not attached to a target board.
A key feature is its separate Vref pin, which supplies the JTAG signal buffers. This, combined with high-speed 24mA three-state buffers, allows the HS3 to drive target boards with signal voltages ranging from 1.8V to 5V and achieve bus speeds of up to 30Mbps. For correct operation, the cable's Vref pin must be connected to the same voltage supply (VCCO_0) that drives the JTAG port on the FPGA.
