The chip fully integrates essential external components, including the EEPROM for device configuration, the clock circuit, and the necessary USB resistors, dramatically simplifying board layout and reducing the bill of materials.

Core Functionality & Features

The FT232R handles the entire USB protocol on-chip, requiring no USB-specific firmware programming from the user. Its UART interface is highly flexible, supporting 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and odd, even, mark, space, or no parity. For reliable data flow control, it offers fully assisted hardware handshaking or X-On/X-Off software handshaking, with in-built support for event characters and line break conditions.

Advanced Integration & Control

New configurable CBUS I/O pins provide additional GPIO functionality. For industrial applications, it includes auto transmit buffer control for RS485 networks and dedicated transmit and receive LED drive signals. The device also features a versatile clock generator, offering outputs at 48MHz, 24MHz, 12MHz, and 6MHz, ideal for driving an external MCU or FPGA, which streamlines system design.
