The Intersil CA3130EZ is a high-performance 15MHz BiMOS operational amplifier, expertly integrating MOSFET input stages with CMOS output technology. This unique architecture combines the advantageous characteristics of both CMOS and bipolar transistors, resulting in a versatile and powerful component for modern electronic design.
At its core, gate-protected P-channel MOSFET (PMOS) transistors form the input circuit, delivering an exceptionally high input impedance and remarkably low input current. This design also provides superior speed performance. A significant benefit of the PMOS input stage is its extended common-mode input-voltage range, which can reach down to 0.5V below the negative supply rail. This capability makes the CA3130EZ exceptionally well-suited for single-supply applications, a critical requirement in many contemporary circuits.
The output stage utilises a CMOS transistor pair, enabling the output voltage to swing to within 10mV of either supply rail when driving high-impedance loads. This 'rail-to-rail' output behaviour maximises dynamic range in low-voltage operations. The device operates across a wide supply voltage range from 5V to 16V (or ±2.5V to ±8V in split-supply configurations), offering great design flexibility. External phase compensation is easily achieved with a single capacitor, and the package includes terminals for offset voltage adjustment and output stage strobing control.
