The Intersil CMOS Timer 7555 provides significantly improved performance over the standard SE/NE555/6 and 355 timers, whilst acting as a direct replacement for those devices in most applications. This versatile RC timer is triggered and reset on falling (negative) waveforms, and its output inverter can source or sink currents large enough to drive TTL loads, or provide minimal offsets to drive CMOS loads.
For stable operation as an oscillator, the free running frequency and the duty cycle are accurately controlled by just two external resistors and one capacitor. Designed for flexibility, it operates in both astable and monostable modes, with an adjustable duty cycle and timing capabilities ranging from microseconds through to hours.
