Featuring a C compiler friendly development environment, this microcontroller includes 256 bytes of EEPROM, self-programming capabilities, and In-Circuit Debug (ICD). It provides 2 capture/compare/PWM functions and a synchronous serial port configurable as either a 3-wire Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) or a 2-wire Inter-Integrated Circuit (I²C) bus, alongside an Addressable Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (AUSART).

Powered by a high-performance RISC CPU, it achieves up to 10 MIPS operation with 16-bit wide instructions and an 8-bit wide data path. It features 3 external interrupt pins and a master synchronous serial port (MSSP) module. Analogue capabilities include programmable low voltage detection (PLVD) and programmable brown-out reset (BOR).
