The Microchip MCP16311/E-MS is a compact, high-efficiency, synchronous step-down DC-DC converter designed for a wide range of power management applications. With an input voltage range from 4.4V to 30V and an adjustable output from 2V to 24V, this regulator delivers up to 1A of continuous current, making it a versatile solution for various electronic systems.
This converter integrates both high-side and low-side N-channel switches, along with fixed frequency peak current mode control, internal compensation, and a stable 0.8V reference. It achieves up to 95% efficiency across all load ranges by automatically switching between PWM and PFM modes, ensuring optimal performance in both heavy and light load conditions. The device also features a low shutdown current of just 3μA and a quiescent current of 44μA in non-switching PFM mode, contributing to excellent energy savings.
Safety and reliability are enhanced with cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, over-temperature protection, and an internal soft-start (300μs from EN low to high). The MSOP-8 package is surface-mount compatible, and the device is qualified to the AEC-Q100 automotive standard, making it suitable for demanding environments. Operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C, and the switching frequency is fixed at 500kHz, ensuring stable and predictable performance.
