It is specifically designed for human interfaces, incorporating all the necessary hardware and signal processing functions to provide stable sensing under a wide variety of changing conditions.
A standout feature is the 'max on' setting, which allows the key to re-calibrate and detect subsequent touches even when faced with an obstruction for a prolonged period. The sensor projects a touch or proximity field to several centimetres through any dielectric, including glass, plastic, stone, ceramic, and most kinds of wood. Furthermore, it can turn small metal-bearing objects into intrinsic sensors, making them responsive to proximity or touch.
Operation requires only a single low-cost capacitor. The device boasts patented spread-spectrum charge-transfer technology and increased moisture tolerance achieved through hardware design and firmware tuning. Additional processing features include self-calibration and noise filter signal processing, while key sensitivity can be easily set using a capacitor.
