The POWER INTEGRATIONS TOP247YN is a highly integrated off-line switcher from the TOPSwitch-GX EcoSmart series, presented in a 6-pin TO-220 package. This advanced component cost-effectively combines a high-voltage power MOSFET, PWM control, comprehensive fault protection, and other control circuitry onto a single CMOS chip. This integration streamlines power supply design, reducing overall system cost while enhancing performance, design flexibility, and energy efficiency.

Key features include soft start for reduced inrush current and frequency jittering to lower electromagnetic interference (EMI). The device offers a wider maximum duty cycle (DCMAX) for greater power delivery and allows for the use of smaller input capacitors. It is capable of regulating down to zero load without the need for dummy loading, improving efficiency. The switching frequency of 132kHz enables the use of smaller transformers and power supplies, contributing to a more compact design.

For robust operation, the TOP247YN incorporates hysteretic thermal shutdown with a large thermal hysteresis. This provides automatic fault recovery and helps prevent overheating of the printed circuit board (PCB). All critical parameters, such as current limit, frequency, and PWM gain, feature tighter temperature and absolute tolerances, which simplifies the design process and helps optimise system cost.
