The Texas Instruments LM2937IMP-5.0/NOPB is a 5V low dropout positive voltage regulator designed to deliver up to 500mA of load current. Utilising a PNP power transistor, this regulator achieves a low dropout voltage, typically just 0.5V at 500mA load, ensuring efficient operation even with small input-to-output differentials. The device includes special circuitry to minimise quiescent current, drawing typically only 10mA with a full 500mA load when the differential is above 3V, making it suitable for power-sensitive applications.
For stable operation, an output bypass capacitor is required. The LM2937 incorporates compensation circuitry that relaxes ESR requirements, remaining stable with all ESR values below 3Ω, thus allowing the use of low ESR chip capacitors. The output is trimmed for 5% tolerance under all operating conditions. Built-in protection features include internal short-circuit protection, thermal overload protection, reverse battery protection, 60V input transient protection, and mirror image insertion protection. The device is also a green product, free from antimony and bromine.
