The Texas Instruments Single Current Limited Power Distribution Switch is engineered for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short-circuits are likely to be encountered. This advanced device incorporates a 70mΩ N-channel MOSFET power switch, making it an ideal choice for power-distribution systems that require multiple power switches. Each switch is controlled by a logic enable input, providing precise operational control.
Gate drive is supplied by an internal charge pump, designed to control the power-switch rise and fall times to minimise current surges during switching, and it requires no external components. In the event of an output load exceeding the current-limit threshold or a short circuit, the device limits the output current to a safe level by switching into a constant-current mode, pulling the over-current logic output low. Furthermore, if continuous heavy overloads or short-circuits increase power dissipation and cause the junction temperature to rise, a thermal protection circuit shuts off the switch to prevent damage.
