Hinged Hasp and Staple

The hinged hasp and staple is a fundamental security fitting, designed to add a padlock point to various doors, lids, and access panels. This robust fitting typically provides a strong, pivoting hasp that latches over a fixed staple, secured with a padlock of your choice. It offers a straightforward and effective method of preventing unauthorised access.

Overview

Commonly manufactured from steel or similar durable metals, hinged hasps and staples are built for longevity and resistance to forced entry. The design allows the hasp to swing clear when unlocked, providing unobstructed access, and to close securely over the staple when locked.

Applications

This hardware is versatile and can be installed on a wide range of items where a simple, external locking mechanism is required. Typical uses include securing sheds, garden gates, tool chests, storage cupboards, and warehouse doors. It is a popular choice for both residential and commercial security applications where a visible, physical lock is desired.

Installation

Installation is generally simple, requiring basic tools. The two components—the hasp and the staple—are fastened separately to the door or lid and its corresponding frame using screws or bolts. Ensuring both parts are aligned correctly is key for smooth operation and a secure fit when the padlock is in place.
