ICY Dock ToughArmor MB842MP-B 2-Bay M.2 NVMe SSD Mobile Rack Adaptor

The ICY Dock ToughArmor MB842MP-B 2-Bay M.2 NVMe SSD Mobile Rack Adaptor is a PCI-Express expansion solution that accommodates two M.2 NVMe SSDs in a single unit. It installs through an unused PCI-Express slot, adding high-speed storage to a desktop computer without internal cabling or the use of drive bays.

Overview

The rack features removable drive enclosures, so an SSD can be added or removed without opening the computer case. This suits users who swap drives frequently or need quick access to their data. To use both drives simultaneously, the motherboard must support PCI-Express Bifurcation so that the system recognises both SSDs installed in the adaptor.

Key Features

• Two-bay design for M.2 NVMe SSDs
• Supports drives up to 110 mm in length and 3.8 mm in full height
• Compatible with M Key NVMe, M Key AHCI, and M+B Key NVMe drives
• PCI-Express 4.0 compatibility with transfer speeds of up to 64Gb/s
• Tool-less installation
• Eagle Hook locking system that retains the SSD inside the enclosure
• Active Power Technology (APT), where the drive activity LED illuminates only when a drive is installed in the bay

Construction and Cooling

The adaptor has a heavy-duty metal housing for durability and stability. It includes aluminium heatsink trays and pre-applied thermal pads to help dissipate heat from the NVMe drives during intensive tasks.

Dimensions and Weight

• Width: 3
• Depth: 2.5
• Height: 4
• Weight: 337 g

Applications

This adaptor suits desktop computers with an unused PCI-Express slot that require additional M.2 NVMe storage. It is also suited to situations where drives are swapped regularly, as the removable enclosures allow quick changes without opening the case.
