The Auto pHAT Robotics Board from SparkFun Electronics is an all-in-one robotics solution designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi, ideal for powering robot or buggy projects. This compact yet powerful board integrates multiple essential components for motor control and motion sensing into a single, easy-to-use package.
At its core, the board features a 4245 PSOC and 2-channel motor port system, capable of driving two DC motors—with or without encoders—and providing PWM control for up to four servo motors via an I2C connection. It delivers a robust 1.2A drive per channel (with a 1.5A peak) and offers 127 levels of DC drive strength for precise motor control. Integrated motor encoder support is handled by an onboard ATTINY84A, allowing for feedback from up to two encoders.
For advanced navigation and sensing, the Auto pHAT is equipped with an onboard ICM-20948 9DoF IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), accessible via the convenient Qwiic connector and library. This IMU provides comprehensive motion data, including a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, and 3-axis magnetometer, enabling your robot to understand its orientation and movement in space.
Connectivity is versatile, with control possible through standard I2C or the plug-and-play Qwiic connection. The design includes full 40-pin header support, allowing you to stack additional Raspberry Pi HAT boards on top without obstruction. It also provides easy access to the Raspberry Pi's camera and display connectors for multimedia applications.
Power management is streamlined: the board features 5V passthrough from the Raspberry Pi's 5V rail and includes a dedicated USB-C connection to power the motors, servos, and even backpower the Pi itself. With dimensions of just 36.5mm x 26mm x 13.5mm and a weight of 26.1 grams, it's a lightweight and compact addition to any robotics build.
