The Arduino Motor Shield (A000079) is a versatile expansion board designed for controlling inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, DC motors, and stepping motors. Based on the robust L298P dual full bridge driver, this shield allows you to independently drive two DC motors with your Arduino board, giving you precise control over speed and direction for each motor. It also enables current sensing for each channel, making it ideal for advanced robotics and automation projects.
This shield is TinkerKit compatible, allowing you to quickly prototype by connecting TinkerKit modules directly to the board. With two separate channels (A and B), it uses four Arduino pins per channel to control rotation direction, speed, fast braking, and current sensing. In total, eight pins are used, leaving plenty of other I/O pins available for additional sensors or components. You can use each channel independently to run two DC motors, or combine them to drive a single bipolar stepper motor.
The shield provides up to 2A per channel, with a combined maximum of 4A. It operates within a 5V to 12V voltage range, offering flexibility for various power supplies. Additional features include a free-running stop and brake function, and a current sensing output of 1.65V per amp, enabling real-time monitoring of motor load.
