DC-DC Switching Boost Regulator, 1.8V-6V In, 28V Out, 400mA, SOT-23-5

The Texas Instruments TPS61040DBVR is a high-frequency, 400mA switch-mode boost (step-up) regulator designed to provide compact and efficient power conversion for a variety of applications. It is particularly suited for generating bias supplies for small to medium LCD panels and for driving white LED backlight strings.

With an adjustable output voltage range up to 28V, this device can be powered from a dual-cell NiMH/NiCd battery stack or a single-cell Li-ion battery, making it ideal for portable and battery-powered equipment. It can also be used to generate standard 3.3V, 5V, or 12V supply rails from lower input voltages.

The regulator operates at a switching frequency of up to 1MHz, allowing the use of small, low-profile external components, including ceramic and tantalum output capacitors. The internal 400mA switch current limit helps reduce output voltage ripple and enables the use of a smaller inductor, which is beneficial for space-constrained designs.

Featuring a low typical quiescent current of 28µA and an optimised control scheme, this boost converter achieves high efficiency across the entire load range, helping to extend battery life in portable applications. The device also includes an internal soft-start function and a typical shutdown current of just 1µA, making it ideal for power-sensitive applications.

This product is a green, environmentally friendly option with no antimony or bromine. It is available in a compact SOT-23-5 package and is suitable for surface-mount assembly.

Important handling note: This device has limited built-in ESD protection. During storage or handling, leads should be shorted together or the device placed in conductive foam to prevent electrostatic damage to the MOS gates.
