The FTDI USB to UART Interface Bridge is a 5th generation USB device designed for versatile serial and parallel interface configurations. As a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (480Mb/s) to UART integrated circuit, it provides a robust solution for advanced data transfer requirements.
This device features four UARTs, two of which can be independently configured with a Multi-Protocol Synchronous Serial Engine (MPSSE). This flexibility allows the bridge to operate as two UART or bit-bang ports alongside two MPSSE engines, enabling the emulation of JTAG, SPI, I²C, and other synchronous serial modes. The entire USB protocol is managed directly on the chip, removing the need for any USB-specific firmware programming.
