MICROCHIP MCP1702 5V 250mA low-dropout voltage regulator. Wide 2.7-13.2V input, low 330mV dropout, ideal for battery-powered electronics.
The MICROCHIP MCP1702-5002E/TO is a highly efficient, 5V CMOS low-dropout (LDO) positive voltage regulator designed for reliable and stable power management. Capable of delivering up to 250mA of output current, it features an exceptionally low quiescent current of just 2μA (typical), making it exceptionally power-efficient for battery-operated devices. Its wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 13.2V makes it an ideal choice for a variety of power sources, from two to six primary cell batteries, 9V alkaline packs, and one or two-cell Li-ion applications.
This regulator offers excellent performance with a low input-to-output voltage differential, requiring only 330mV (typical) dropout voltage to maintain a stable 5V output. The output voltage tolerance is a precise ±0.4% at room temperature and ±3% maximum across the full operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, ensuring consistent performance in demanding environments. It also boasts a typical line regulation of ±0.1%, contributing to its stable output under varying input conditions.
For design flexibility, the device is stable with a wide range of output capacitors, from 1 to 22µF, including ceramic, aluminium, or tantalum types. Integrated protection features such as short-circuit and over-temperature protection safeguard both the regulator and the connected circuitry, enhancing overall system reliability. It is supplied in a through-hole TO-92-3 package for easy prototyping and assembly.
