The Microchip MCP23S09-E/SO is an 8-bit I/O expander with a high-speed SPI interface operating at 10MHz, designed to provide general purpose parallel I/O expansion for SPI applications. This device features eight configurable I/O pins with multiple 8-bit registers for input, output, and polarity selection, allowing the system master to set each pin as input or output via the I/O configuration bits. Data for each pin is stored in corresponding input/output registers, and the polarity inversion register can invert the input port polarity.
Key features include low standby current as low as 1µA, high-speed SPI interface, configurable interrupt output pins (active-high, active-low, or open-drain), and a configurable interrupt source for interrupt-on-change from configured defaults or pin change. The device also includes an external reset input and supports a supply voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V, making it versatile for various low-power applications. The device is qualified to AEC-Q100 for automotive applications and has MSL 1 - unlimited moisture sensitivity level.
