The MICROCHIP MCP9800A0T-M/OT is a high-accuracy 2-Wire digital temperature sensor designed for precise temperature monitoring and control. It converts a wide temperature range from -55°C to +125°C directly into a digital signal, providing an exceptional accuracy of ±1°C (maximum) between -10°C and +85°C. This makes it a reliable component for applications where tight thermal management is critical.
The device offers outstanding flexibility through its user-programmable registers. You can select the temperature measurement resolution from 9-bit to 12-bit, configure power-saving shutdown and one-shot modes for single conversions on command, and set custom temperature alert thresholds and hysteresis limits. When the temperature moves beyond the specified boundaries, the sensor outputs an alert signal. This alert can be configured as either an active-low or active-high comparator output for thermostat operation or as a temperature event interrupt for microprocessor-based systems, offering versatile integration options.
Key performance features include a very low 200μA (typical) operating current and an ultralow 1μA (maximum) shutdown current, making it ideal for power-sensitive designs. Its 2-wire I²C™/SMBus compatible interface ensures simple and standardised communication with a host microcontroller.
