The NEXPERIA 74HC4051D is a versatile 8-channel analogue multiplexer/demultiplexer, housed in a compact 16-pin SOIC package. This high-speed Si-gate CMOS device offers seamless compatibility with low-power Schottky TTL (LSTTL) logic families and is specified in full compliance with the JEDEC standard JESD 7A. It provides an efficient solution for routing analogue or digital signals in a wide array of electronic applications, from professional audio equipment to sophisticated industrial control systems.
The device features three digital select inputs (S0 to S2) and an active LOW enable input. It provides eight independent inputs/outputs (Y0 to Y7) and a common input/output (Z). When the enable pin is LOW, one of the eight internal switches is selected, entering a low-impedance ON state as dictated by the select inputs. A HIGH signal on the enable input places all switches into a high-impedance OFF state, providing excellent signal isolation.
A key advantage is its wide analogue input voltage range, allowing signals from -5V to +5V to be handled with ease. This, combined with a typical low ON resistance of just 80 ohms (at VCC - VEE = 4.5V), ensures minimal signal attenuation and distortion. The integrated logic level translation capability enables straightforward interfacing between standard 5V digital logic and ±5V analogue signal domains.
