Pimoroni Wide Angle Thermal Camera Breakout, MLX90640 Sensor

The Pimoroni PIM366 Wide Angle Thermal Camera Breakout is a versatile and cost-effective 32x24 pixel thermal imaging solution designed for makers, engineers, and hobbyists. Built around the powerful Melexis MLX90640 far-infrared sensor array, it provides a window into the thermal world, capable of detecting temperatures from -40°C to 300°C with an accuracy of approximately ±1°C. Its compact and hackable design makes it an ideal component for a wide range of electronic projects.

Featuring a wide 110°x75° field of view lens, this breakout board can capture thermal data at a rate of up to 64 frames per second, allowing for dynamic thermal monitoring and analysis. It communicates via a simple I2C interface (address 0x33) and is compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic levels, offering great flexibility for integration. The board includes essential protection features such as reverse polarity protection to safeguard your components during experimentation.

Designed for seamless use with popular platforms, it is perfectly suited for Raspberry Pi or Arduino projects. For an intuitive setup, the breakout is compatible with the Pimoroni Breakout Garden ecosystem, allowing for easy plug-and-play operation when mounted on a compatible HAT or Bonnet. Please note that if using with the Breakout Garden, the required camera software will need to be installed manually.

Supplied unassembled, the package includes the breakout board itself, a strip of male header pins, and a right-angle female header, giving you the flexibility to choose the orientation that best fits your project enclosure. Weighing just 12 grams and with compact dimensions, it can be incorporated into portable or space-constrained designs with ease.
