Power Integrations TOP227YN PWM Switch TO-220-3 150W

The Power Integrations TOP227YN is a second-generation TOPSwitch-II three-terminal offline PWM switch, housed in a 3-pin TO-220 package. This low-cost switcher solution provides the lowest component count for switched-mode power supplies, making it an ideal choice for designers aiming to reduce board space and time-to-market.

Incorporating significant circuit enhancements that reduce sensitivity to board layout and line transients, the TOP227YN simplifies the design process. Its monolithic CMOS chip integrates a high-voltage power MOSFET, PWM control, fault protection, and other control circuitry into a single device. It supports flyback, forward, boost, or buck topologies and works with primary or opto feedback for versatile application design.

The switch delivers 150W at 100/115/230VAC single voltage input and 90W at 85–265VAC wide input, with a switching frequency of 100kHz and a duty cycle range of 1.7% to 67%. It features very low AC/DC losses with up to 90% efficiency, a latching thermal shutdown for system-level protection, and stable operation in discontinuous or continuous conduction modes. The source-connected tab aids in low EMI, and the operating junction temperature range spans from -40°C to 150°C.

This PWM switch is cost-competitive with linear solutions above 5W, making it an excellent choice for consumer electronics, portable devices, audio, power management, and multimedia applications. Its robust design and integrated protections ensure reliable performance in demanding conditions.
