Semtech µClamp TVS Diode 3.3V SOD-523 8V Clamping

The Semtech µClamp TVS Diode is a 3.3V low-voltage protection device with an 8V clamping voltage, housed in a compact SOD-523 package. It is designed for ESD and CDE protection in portable and compact electronics, and is engineered as a replacement for multilayer varistors (MLVs).

Overview

Constructed using Semtech's proprietary EPD (Embedded Protection Device) process technology, this solid-state silicon-avalanche diode offers enhanced electrical performance compared with MLVs, including a lower clamping voltage and no device degradation over time. It features low leakage currents and reduced capacitance, which supports signal integrity in high-speed data lines. With a true operating voltage of 3.3V, it provides protection compared with standard PN junction devices.

Key Features

• Low clamping voltage, so sensitive components are exposed to lower surge voltages
• Low leakage current
• Solid-state silicon-avalanche technology for surge protection
• Operating temperature range of -55°C to 125°C
• Single-line protection for individual data lines

Applications

The device is intended to protect sensitive semiconductor components against damage or operational upset caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning strikes, electrical fast transients (EFT), and cable discharge events (CDE). The compact SOD-523 package suits space-constrained designs such as mobile phones, notebook computers, PDAs, and other portable devices.
