StarTech DB9/DB25 PCI-Express Serial & Parallel Combo Card

The StarTech DB9/DB25 PCI-Express Serial & Parallel Combo Card adds one DB25 parallel port and one DB9 RS232 serial port to a desktop computer through a single PCI-Express slot.

Overview

This interface card provides legacy connectivity for modern desktop computers, allowing a wide range of older equipment to connect to current systems. It can be used to interface with industrial printers, barcode scanners, scientific sensors, point-of-sale terminals, and specialised legacy hardware.

Performance

The card is built around the Asix AX99100 chipset. The parallel port transfers data at up to 2.5 Mb/s and is fully IEEE 1284 compatible, supporting SPP, Byte, Nibble, and ECP modes. The serial port transfers data at up to 921.6 Kb/s and uses a 16950 UART with a 256-byte FIFO buffer, which supports reliable data flow and reduces CPU overhead during high-speed communication.

Key Features

• Optional SATA power input for adjustable 5V–12V supply on pin 9 of the serial port
• Useful for powering devices that require supplementary power directly from the port
• PCI Power Management 1.2 compliant for efficient power usage
• Installs into any full-size PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slot

Specifications

• Parallel port: DB25, IEEE 1284 compatible
