The TDK Metal Oxide Varistor is a high-performance protective component designed to absorb and dissipate transient voltage surges, safeguarding sensitive electronic circuits. This standard-series varistor features a robust disc element with a UL94V-0 flame-rated epoxy resin coating, ensuring excellent safety and durability. With no derating required up to an ambient temperature of 85°C, it offers reliable performance under demanding conditions.
Approved by leading international standards including UL, CSA, VDE, CQC, and IEC, this component is trusted for use in industrial and safety-critical applications. It operates across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C and is tested for an endurance of 1000 hours at 85°C, guaranteeing long-term stability. The varistor voltage is available with tight tolerances of ±10% and ±5%.
Its primary function is to clamp excessive voltage spikes, with a maximum clamping voltage of 710V and a peak surge current handling capability of 400A (8/20µs waveform). The key specification is its high peak energy absorption of 8.6J (10/1000µs), making it highly effective against large, damaging transients. The round varistor element is housed in a compact disc case style measuring 5mm.
