Texas Instruments Fixed LDO Voltage Regulator offering 5V output and 1A current. Features reverse battery and transient protection for automotive use.
The Texas Instruments Fixed LDO Voltage Regulator is a robust positive voltage regulator designed to source up to 1A of output current. It features a typical dropout voltage of 500mV, with a maximum of 1V across the entire temperature range, ensuring reliable performance even with minimal input-output differentials.
A notable feature is the quiescent current reduction circuit. This reduces the ground current when the differential between the input and output voltage exceeds approximately 3V. Consequently, the quiescent current is only 30mA when delivering 1A output with a 5V differential. Higher quiescent currents only occur when the regulator operates in dropout mode (VIN - VOUT ≤3V).
Protection Features
This regulator incorporates comprehensive safeguards. It is fully protected against reverse battery installations and 2-battery jumps. During line transients, such as a load dump where the input voltage momentarily exceeds the specified maximum operating voltage, the device automatically shuts down to protect both the internal circuits and the load. Furthermore, it cannot be damaged by temporary mirror-image insertion, and it includes an internal short-circuit current limit.
With compact dimensions of 43 mm height, 33 mm width, and 15 mm depth, and weighing just 1.588 grams, this through-hole TO-220-3 package is highly suitable for space-constrained and demanding environments.
