Multicomp Pro HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor works at 3.3V/5V for easy micro:bit & Raspberry Pi integration. 2cm-450cm range.
The Multicomp Pro HC-SR04+ ultrasonic distance sensor is engineered for easy integration with popular development platforms. Its key advantage is a low operating voltage range of 3.0V to 5.5V, allowing it to be powered directly from the 3.3V GPIO pins of devices like the BBC micro:bit or Raspberry Pi without the need for additional level shifters. This makes prototyping and project building significantly simpler and more streamlined.
It operates identically to the standard HC-SR04 model, using a straightforward trigger-and-echo pulse system for distance measurement. To initiate a reading, a 10-microsecond HIGH pulse is sent to the Trigger pin. The sensor then emits an ultrasonic burst and listens for the echo. The Echo pin outputs a pulse whose duration corresponds to the time taken for the sound to travel to the object and back, allowing for precise distance calculation.
While functionally identical, note that using the lower 3.3V power may result in a slight reduction of the maximum effective range compared to operation at 5V. The sensor is mechanically and electronically compatible with the classic HC-SR04 footprint but features a crucial design difference: the 4-pin header is oriented to face backwards. This makes it the perfect drop-in replacement for projects originally designed for the HC-SR04 that require 3.3V logic compatibility.
