Penn Elcom CoolRac 19″ 1U Rack Fan Tray

The Penn Elcom CoolRac is a highly effective and exceptionally quiet 1U rack fan tray designed for hot air extraction. It utilises three low-noise mini blowers to actively draw warm air from inside an equipment rack and expel it efficiently through the front panel vents. This targeted cooling helps maintain optimal operating temperatures for sensitive electronics, prolonging equipment lifespan and preventing overheating-related failures.

A key feature is the optional thermostat compatibility. By connecting the separately sold CRC-TEMP sensor, the unit can be set to activate automatically only when the internal rack temperature reaches 40°C (104°F). This intelligent operation increases energy efficiency by running the fans only when necessary, reducing noise and power consumption during cooler periods.

The design incorporates a 1U front panel paired with a ½U fan enclosure. This compact form factor allows the CoolRac to be installed in the limited space between rack-mounted equipment, providing crucial airflow management exactly where it is needed. Its construction from black powder-coated steel offers durability and a professional, neutral appearance that blends seamlessly into any rack environment.

For installation flexibility, up to three CoolRac units can be daisy-chained from a single power source, simplifying cable management in densely packed racks. It operates at a remarkably low noise level of just 22.3 dBA, making it ideal for noise-sensitive environments like recording studios, broadcast facilities, houses of worship, or office server rooms. The unit moves air at a rate of 120 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), providing substantial cooling capacity. A worldwide universal 1A power supply (12V DC, 420mA) is included for immediate use.
