The StarTech.com 1 Port RS232 Serial to Ethernet Device Server provides a robust and straightforward solution for integrating legacy serial equipment into modern IP networks. This converter allows you to remotely connect and control RS232 serial devices from anywhere on your LAN or over the internet, effectively bridging the gap between older hardware and contemporary networked systems.
Featuring a high-speed serial port supporting data rates up to 921.6kb/s, it ensures reliable and fast communication. The integrated 10/100Mbps RJ45 port with auto-negotiation guarantees a stable and efficient connection to your local area network. It operates over multiple protocols, including Telnet (RFC2217), UDP, and TCP, offering great flexibility for different networking setups.
A key feature is its support for TCP client/server mode, enabling seamless serial tunnelling between two device servers over a LAN. This allows for the creation of virtual serial connections across your network infrastructure. The device is housed in a durable, all-metal enclosure designed to withstand harsh industrial environments, complete with Level 4 ESD protection (15kV air, 8kV contact).
Installation is versatile, with multiple mounting holes and an included DIN rail kit for secure placement in control cabinets or on walls. The package includes a universal power adaptor, and the device also supports 5V power delivery over pin 9 of the serial connector for compatible peripherals. While the hardware is compatible with macOS and Linux, the Virtual COM port software for creating virtual serial ports on your PC is exclusive to Windows 8, 10, and 11. Configuration via a common web user interface (WebUI) is available for all operating systems.
