This PWM DC/DC Buck (Step-down) Voltage Regulator from Texas Instruments features a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 42V, making it highly suitable for power conditioning from unregulated sources. It incorporates a low RDSON (0.9Ω typical) internal switch to ensure maximum efficiency, achieving up to 85% typical efficiency.
Operating at a fixed switching frequency of 1.25MHz, this regulator allows for the use of small external components while still maintaining low output voltage ripple. It is optimised for load currents up to 600mA and features a nominal feedback voltage of 0.765V, providing an adjustable output voltage range from 765mV to 34V.
A soft-start function can be implemented using the shutdown pin with an external RC circuit, allowing the user to tailor the soft-start time to the specific application. Additional protective features include thermal shutdown, VIN under-voltage lockout, and gate drive under-voltage lockout. The device is internally compensated and offers tight accuracy, making it excellent for powering digital ICs. It also includes short-circuit protection and a typical low shutdown IQ of 16µA. Furthermore, it is classified as a green product with no Sb/Br.
