Broadcom ACPL-C870 Optically Isolated Voltage Sensor Amplifier SOIC-8

Broadcom ACPL-C870 Optically Isolated Voltage Sensor Amplifier is a precision voltage sensing amplifier with a 1GΩ input impedance and a nominal input range of 0V to 2V, designed for accurate voltage measurement in electrically noisy environments.

Overview

Housed in a compact 8-pin SSO (SOIC-8) package, the ACPL-C870 is designed for isolated voltage sensing in demanding applications such as electronic power converters. Its high input impedance and nominal input range make it suitable for monitoring DC link voltages through a simple resistive divider. Utilising sigma-delta (Σ-Δ) modulation, the amplifier maintains signal integrity across the optical isolation barrier and provides a differential output voltage that is proportional to the input voltage, with a maximum non-linearity of 0.1%.

Key Features

• Optical isolation with a 5kVrms isolation voltage
• Low gain drift of -35ppm/°C and offset voltage drift of 21µV/°C
• 100kHz bandwidth for responsive signal processing
• Common-mode transient immunity of 15kV/µs
• Active high shutdown pin that reduces supply current (IDD1) to 15µA
• Operating temperature range from -40°C to 105°C

Power and Supply

The input side operates from a single 5V supply, while the output side accepts a supply range of 3V to 5.5V, accommodating a variety of system designs. The shutdown pin makes the device well suited to power-sensitive applications, including battery-powered systems.

Dimensions and Weight

Listed dimensions are 3.3 (width), 1.5 (depth) and 4.3 (height), with a weight of 2.419 g.

Safety Approvals

The ACPL-C870 is approved to IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5, UL 1577 and CSA safety standards, and is intended for isolated voltage sensing in high-noise industrial settings.
