It is accessed via a simple Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) compatible bus, requiring only a clock input (SCK), separate data in (SI) and data out (SO) lines, and a chip select (CS) input for control.
A key feature is the hold pin, which allows communication with the device to be paused. During this hold state, input transitions are ignored (except for chip select), enabling the host processor to service higher-priority interrupts without disrupting the memory operation. This makes it an ideal component for complex, multi-tasking electronic applications.
