The MICROCHIP 24LC256-E/SN is a 256Kbit (32k x 8) CMOS serial Electrically Erasable PROM (EEPROM) that offers a versatile and reliable non-volatile memory solution. Operating across a broad voltage range from 1.7V to 5.5V, it is specifically engineered for advanced, low-power applications in personal communications and data acquisition systems.
A key feature of this device is its 64-byte page write capability, allowing for efficient data programming. It supports both random and sequential read operations up to the full 256k memory boundary. Functional address lines enable the connection of up to eight devices on the same I²C™-compatible bus, expanding the total addressable space to 2Mb, making it ideal for scalable designs.
The EEPROM is designed for robustness and long-term data integrity. It features Schmitt trigger inputs for effective noise suppression and output slope control to eliminate ground bounce. With electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection greater than 4000V, a self-timed write cycle of 5ms maximum, and a hardware write-protect pin, it ensures safe and secure operation. The device boasts an endurance of over one million erase/write cycles and data retention exceeding 200 years.
Its low power consumption is a major advantage, with a maximum read current of 400μA and a maximum standby current of just 1μA. Factory programming is available for pre-loaded configurations. Housed in a compact, surface-mount SOIC-8 package, it is suitable for a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 125°C, ensuring performance in demanding environments.
