The Microchip 8-Bit Flash CMOS Microcontroller features 1 comparator and 128 bytes of EEPROM data memory. It includes a watchdog timer controlled by configuration bits and runs off its own RC oscillator for added reliability.

This device incorporates two timers offering necessary delays on power-up. The Oscillator Start-up Timer (OST) keeps the chip in reset until the crystal oscillator is stable, while the Power-up Timer (PWRT) provides a fixed delay of 72ms on power-up to keep the part in reset while the power supply stabilises. Additionally, built-in circuitry resets the device if a brown-out occurs, providing at least a 72ms reset. With these three on-chip functions, most applications require no external reset circuitry.
