Microchip MCP73812 Li-Ion/Li-Pol Battery Charger SOT-23

The Microchip MCP73812T-420I/OT is a miniature, fully integrated charge management controller designed for single-cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer batteries. Housed in a compact 5-pin SOT-23 package, this linear charger is ideal for space-limited and cost-sensitive applications, offering a complete solution with minimal external components.

The device employs a constant current / constant voltage (CC/CV) charge algorithm to deliver optimal capacity in the shortest possible charging time. The charge current is programmable via a single external resistor, ranging from 50mA to 500mA, and the voltage regulation is set to 4.2V with a high accuracy of ±1%. Thermal regulation automatically limits the charge current during high-power or high-ambient conditions, maintaining device reliability and optimising the charge cycle.

Key features include automatic power-down when the input power is removed, an active-high charge enable input, and external end-of-charge control. The device operates over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for a wide variety of environments. With a low external parts count of only two ceramic capacitors and one resistor, the MCP73812 simplifies design and reduces overall system cost.
