The MIKROE-55 is a high-quality 2x16 character LCD module featuring a crisp blue backlight, designed for clear and reliable data display in a wide range of electronic projects. This module is built around an integrated LSI controller, which houses two 8-bit registers: an instruction register (IR) and a data register (DR). The IR is responsible for storing instruction codes—such as display clear and cursor shift commands—along with address information for the display data RAM (DDRAM) and character generator RAM (CGRAM). It can only be written to by the MPU (microprocessor unit).
The data register (DR) acts as a temporary buffer for information being written to or read from the DDRAM or CGRAM. Data flow is managed by the register selector (RS) signal, which allows the MPU to select between these two registers for communication. This precise control enables flexible and efficient display management.
