The Synchronous 4-Bit Up/Down Binary Counter provides reliable synchronous operation for your digital logic applications. This monolithic circuit features a complexity of 55 equivalent gates and operates as a synchronous reversible counter. Synchronous operation is achieved by having all flip-flops clocked simultaneously, ensuring that the outputs change coincidentally with each other as directed by the steering logic. This specific mode of operation effectively eliminates the output counting spikes normally associated with asynchronous counters.
The outputs of the four flip-flops are triggered by a low-to-high-level transition of either count input. The direction of counting is determined by which count input is pulsed while the other count input remains high. A dedicated clear input forces all outputs to the low level when a high level is applied, and this clear function operates independently of the count and load inputs. Furthermore, the clear, count, and load inputs are buffered to lower the drive requirements.
