LMD18200T/NOPB Motor Driver IC, 3A, 12-55V, TO-220-11

The LMD18200T/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a robust 3A H-bridge integrated circuit designed for high-performance motion control. Engineered using an advanced multi-technology process, it combines precise bipolar and CMOS control circuitry with efficient DMOS power devices on a single monolithic chip. This integration results in a highly reliable and compact driver solution ideal for demanding applications.

Capable of delivering a continuous output current of 3A and accommodating peak currents up to 6A, this driver is perfectly suited for controlling DC and stepper motors. An innovative internal circuit allows for low-loss sensing of the output current, enhancing system efficiency and control. The device features a remarkably low on-resistance (RDS(ON)), typically just 0.33Ω per switch at 3A, minimising power loss and heat generation during operation.

For robust system protection, it includes multiple built-in safety features. These include thermal management with a warning flag output at 145°C and a full thermal shutdown that turns the outputs off at 170°C. It also offers protection against shorted loads and incorporates internal clamp diodes. The inputs are compatible with both TTL and CMOS logic levels, and the design eliminates shoot-through current, ensuring safe and reliable switching.

The device includes an internal charge pump with external bootstrap capability for efficient high-side drive. It is also classified as a green product, containing no antimony or bromine (No Sb/Br). Housed in a TO-220-11 package, it is designed for ease of mounting and effective heat dissipation. Note: The device has limited built-in ESD protection; during storage or handling, leads should be shorted together or the device placed in conductive foam to prevent electrostatic damage to the MOS gates.
