The ATMEL AT42QT1012-TSHR is a highly integrated, single-channel digital touch sensor integrated circuit designed for reliable capacitive touch controls. Based on proprietary charge-transfer (QT™) sensing technology, it provides a robust, toggle-mode (touch-on/touch-off) output with programmable auto switch-off capability, making it an ideal power switch replacement for a vast range of electronic products.

This compact device incorporates all necessary hardware and signal processing functions to deliver stable and consistent sensing performance under varying environmental conditions. Its advanced firmware features include self-calibration, auto drift compensation, and integrated noise filtering, which work together to prevent false triggers and ensure reliable operation. A key environmentally conscious feature is its configurable timeout function, allowing the connected device to automatically power down after a user-defined delay ranging from minutes up to an hour, helping to conserve energy in battery-operated applications.

The sensor offers exceptional design flexibility. It can be configured as either a single touch key or a proximity sensor and is compatible with a wide array of electrode materials including etched copper, silver, carbon, and Indium Tin Oxide (ITO). It supports various substrates like PCB, FPC, plastic films, and glass, and can sense through panel materials such as plastic, glass, composites, and painted surfaces up to 12mm (glass) or 6mm (plastic) thick, depending on electrode size and external sensitivity settings.

Key sensitivity is easily adjustable via a single external capacitor (Cs), and the digital output can be hardware-configured as either active high or active low. The patented Spread-S technology supports electrode sizes from 6x6mm upwards, enabling a wide variety of key shapes and designs, including solid or ring electrode patterns, all achievable with just a single PCB layer.
