ATMEL ATmega8A-PU 8-Bit AVR Microcontroller, 8KB Flash, DIP-28

The ATMEL ATmega8A-PU is a high-performance, low-power 8-bit AVR RISC-based microcontroller that combines 8KB of ISP flash memory with read-while-write capabilities, 512B EEPROM, and 23 general-purpose I/O lines. It features 32 general-purpose working registers, three flexible timer/counters with compare modes, internal and external interrupts, a serial programmable USART, and a byte-oriented two-wire serial interface. The device includes a 6-channel 10-bit A/D converter (8-channel in TQFP and QFN/MLF packages), a programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator, an SPI serial port, and five software-selectable power-saving modes.

Operating between 2.7V and 5.5V, the ATmega8A-PU executes powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, achieving throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz, balancing power consumption and processing speed. Its advanced RISC architecture and high endurance non-volatile memory segments ensure reliable performance in demanding applications.

The microcontroller supports Atmel QTouch® library for capacitive touch sensing, power-on reset, programmable brown-out detection, and an internal calibrated RC oscillator. It offers multiple sleep modes (Idle, ADC Noise Reduction, Power-save, Power-down, and Standby) to optimise energy efficiency. With an operating frequency range of 0 to 16MHz, this device is suitable for a wide variety of embedded control tasks.

With power consumption as low as 3.6mA in active mode, 1.0mA in idle mode, and 0.5μA in power-down mode, the ATmega8A-PU is designed for energy-conscious designs. The microcontroller comes in a 28-pin DIP package, ideal for through-hole mounting, and operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
