DIODES INC. AP64501 Synchronous Buck Converter, 5A, HSOIC-8

The AP64501SP-13 is a synchronous step-down (buck) regulator from Diodes Incorporated, engineered for high-efficiency DC-DC conversion. It fully integrates a 45mΩ high-side power MOSFET and a 20mΩ low-side power MOSFET to minimise power losses and achieve excellent efficiency, including up to 85% at light loads (5mA). The device employs peak current mode control to simplify the external component count, making it easy to design into a wide range of applications.

A proprietary gate driver scheme effectively reduces switching node ringing without compromising MOSFET turn-on and turn-off times, thereby lowering high-frequency radiated EMI. Additionally, the device features frequency spread spectrum (FSS) with a ±6% switching frequency jitter, further reducing EMI by spreading emitted energy across a frequency range. This makes the AP64501 an ideal choice for noise-sensitive designs.

The converter accepts a wide input voltage supply from 3.8V to 40V and provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V up to 40V (maximum 39V at +25°C). It includes robust protection features such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO), output overvoltage protection (OVP), cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, and thermal shutdown. The device also supports low-dropout (LDO) mode with a precision enable threshold to adjust the UVLO, enhancing design flexibility.

With a typical switching frequency of 570kHz, the AP64501 operates over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and comes in an SO-8EP (HSOIC-8) surface-mount package. This regulator is suitable for a variety of applications, including 5V, 12V, and 24V distributed power buses, power tools, laser printers, white goods, home appliances, home audio, network systems, consumer electronics, and general point-of-load designs.
