Extech SP505 Pocket Solar Power Light Meter

The Extech SP505 Pocket Solar Power Light Meter is an essential tool for accurately measuring solar power levels, from intense outdoor sunlight to interior radiation transmission. Its primary application is determining the optimal placement for solar panels and solar water heater installations, ensuring maximum energy efficiency and system performance.

Beyond renewable energy setup, this compact meter is widely used by window manufacturers, the automotive industry, and homeowners during renovations. It precisely checks the level of solar radiation transmitted through various glass thicknesses and tinting degrees, providing critical data for selecting the right glazing for energy conservation, comfort, and UV protection.

Designed for ultimate convenience, its pocket-sized form factor and built-in precision solar light sensor make it easy to use on the go. The meter offers flexible measurement in both watts per square metre (W/m²) and BTU per square foot per hour (BTU/ft²/h). Key functions include a zero adjustment to null out ambient light, a data hold to freeze the current reading on the display for easy recording, and a standard tripod mount for hands-free, stable measurements during prolonged monitoring sessions.

Constructed to professional standards, it features a spectral response from 400nm to 1100nm, covering the relevant range of solar radiation. With a broad measuring range up to 3999 W/m², it is suitable for a wide array of applications. Weighing just 80g and with compact dimensions, it is the perfect portable instrument for field technicians, installers, and DIY enthusiasts alike.
