The Infineon BTS428L2ATMA1 is a one-channel smart high-side power switch, monolithically integrated using advanced Smart SIPMOS® technology. It features an N-channel vertical power MOSFET, a built-in charge pump, and a ground-referenced CMOS-compatible input with diagnostic feedback, providing a highly integrated and reliable solution for power switching. The device incorporates comprehensive protective functions for robust and safe operation.
This intelligent switch is designed for microcontroller (µC) compatible control, making it ideal for switching grounded loads in 5V, 12V, and 24V systems. It is suitable for all types of loads, including resistive, inductive, and capacitive, and is particularly well-suited for loads with high inrush currents, such as lamps. It serves as an excellent replacement for bulkier electromechanical relays, fuses, and discrete circuits, offering superior efficiency and space savings.
Key features include a very low standby current, a 7A nominal load current with a 17A current limitation, and improved electromagnetic compatibility. It provides fast demagnetisation of inductive loads and stable operation during undervoltage conditions across a wide operating voltage range. The design ensures logic ground is independent from load ground.
Protection and Diagnostics
The BTS428L2ATMA1 offers a comprehensive suite of protection mechanisms, including short circuit, overload, and thermal shutdown protection. It also features overvoltage protection (with an external resistor) and reverse battery protection (also with an external resistor). Additional safeguards include loss of ground and loss of Vbb protection, as well as electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. Diagnostic feedback is provided via an open-drain output, capable of open-load detection in the ON state and feedback during a thermal shutdown event.
