The MICROCHIP Ethernet Controller with SPI is a stand-alone device featuring an industry-standard serial peripheral interface (SPI). Designed to serve as an Ethernet network interface for any SPI-equipped controller, this device meets all IEEE 802.3 specifications, making it a robust choice for network integration.
It incorporates several advanced features, including packet filtering schemes to limit incoming packets, an internal DMA module for fast data throughput, and hardware-assisted checksum calculation used in various network protocols. Communication with the host controller is implemented via an interrupt pin and the SPI, supporting clock rates of up to 20MHz. Additionally, two dedicated pins are provided for LED link and network activity indication.
