The MICROCHIP High Speed CAN Bus Transceiver is a second-generation interface solution designed to bridge a CAN protocol controller and the physical two-wire CAN bus. Engineered to meet stringent automotive requirements, this device delivers high-speed data transmission up to 1Mbps while maintaining low quiescent current, excellent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and robust electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.
Fully compatible with ISO-11898-2 and ISO-11898-5 standards, the transceiver provides reliable differential transmit and receive capability. It features unpowered bus pins that ensure an unpowered node or brown-out event will not load the CAN bus, alongside a very low standby current of typically 5µA.
Advanced Protection and Diagnostics
This transceiver includes a SPLIT output pin to stabilise common mode in biased split termination schemes. It offers comprehensive diagnostic features, including ground fault detection and permanent dominant detection on both TXD and the bus. For robust operation, it incorporates power-on reset, voltage brown-out protection on VDD and VIO pins, and safeguarding against short-circuit conditions (positive or negative battery voltage) and high-voltage transients in automotive environments. An automatic thermal shutdown mechanism further enhances device longevity.
