Microchip serial I2C real-time clock/calendar IC with SRAM & EEPROM. 1.8V-5.5V, MSOP-8 package, battery backup switchover.
The Microchip RTC IC is a serial battery-backed I2C real-time clock/calendar featuring integrated SRAM, EEPROM, and protected EEPROM. It reliably tracks time using internal counters for hours, minutes, seconds, days, months, years, and the day of the week.
Alarms can be configured on all counters up to and including months. The open-drain, multi-functional output can be set to assert on an alarm match, output a selectable frequency square wave, or serve as a general-purpose output. Designed to operate using a 32.768KHz tuning fork crystal with external crystal load capacitors, it features on-chip digital trimming to adjust for frequency variance caused by crystal tolerance and temperature.
When main power is lost, the SRAM and timekeeping circuitry are automatically powered from the backup supply, ensuring the device maintains accurate time and retains SRAM contents. The time is logged on switchover to and from battery mode. Additional features include dual programmable alarms, software write-protect, and page write up to eight bytes.
