In its addressable latch mode, data present at the D input is written into a specific latch selected by the A0 to A2 address inputs. The selected latch will follow the data input, while all non-addressed latches retain their previous states, allowing for random data entry. In the memory mode, all latches hold their data, independent of changes on the address or data lines. For decoding applications, the 3-to-8 decoding or demultiplexing mode drives the addressed output to follow the D input while forcing all other outputs low. A common reset input provides a reset mode, forcing all outputs low regardless of other inputs.
Key features include inputs with clamp diodes, enabling the use of current-limiting resistors to interface with signals exceeding the VCC supply voltage.
