The NXP PCA9306DP is a dual bidirectional I²C-bus and SMBus voltage-level translator with an enable (EN) input, designed for mixed-mode I²C-bus applications. It operates from 1.0V to 3.6V on the Vref(1) side and 1.8V to 5.5V on the Vbias(ref)(2) side, allowing seamless voltage translations between 1V and 5V without requiring a direction pin. The low ON-state resistance (Ron) ensures minimal propagation delay, making it ideal for high-speed communication.
When EN is high, the translator switch connects SCL1 and SDA1 to SCL2 and SDA2, enabling bidirectional data flow between ports. When EN is low, the switch is off, providing a high-impedance state to isolate both sides. Unlike bus buffers, the PCA9306 delivers voltage-level translation when active but only isolates capacitance when disabled, offering flexibility in mixed-voltage systems.
