Power Integrations Off-Line Switcher DIP8 9.5W Flyback

Power Integrations Off-Line Switcher DIP8 9.5W Flyback is an off-line switcher IC in a DIP8 package, rated at 9.5W for flyback applications. It integrates a 700V power MOSFET, oscillator, high voltage switched current source, current limit and thermal shutdown circuitry onto a single monolithic device.

Overview

The start-up and operating power are derived directly from the voltage on the DRAIN pin, which removes the need for a bias winding and its associated circuitry. The switcher incorporates auto-restart, line undervoltage sense and frequency jittering. Its simple ON/OFF control scheme is designed to minimise audio frequency components, practically eliminating audible noise when using standard taped or varnished transformer construction.

Key Features

• Fully integrated auto-restart for short circuit and open loop fault protection
• Programmable line undervoltage detect feature helps prevent power on/off glitches
• Frequency jittering reduces EMI by around 10 dB
• 132kHz operation helps reduce transformer size
• Simple ON/OFF control with no loop compensation needed
• No bias winding required
• Low component count switcher solution
• Current limit operation rejects line frequency ripple
• Built-in current limit and thermal protection

Dimensions and Weight

The unit measures 40 mm in height, 30 mm in width and 25 mm in depth, and has an ultra-light build. The weight is listed as 0.001 gm.

Power Consumption

No load consumption is less than 50mW with a bias winding and less than 250mW without a bias winding at a 265VAC input.

Choose the Power Integrations Off-Line Switcher DIP8 9.5W Flyback for off-line flyback designs that require a compact, low component count switcher solution with built-in auto-restart and protection features.
